METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD To Host Reality-Based Sports TV Series
February 11, 2004METALLICA frontman James Hetfield, who is said to be an "avid hockey fan," will host a two-part look at the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche beginning this Thursday, Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. (ET) on ESPN immediately following Thursday Night Hockey (Colorado at St. Louis or Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers, 7:30 p.m. ET).
Described as "a reality-based program on athletes and teams," the ESPN Original Entertainment (EOE) series "The Season" will offer an inside look at one of the NHL's perennial winners, which boasts numerous world-class players including recently named NHL All-Star Most Valuable Player, forward Joe Sakic. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion Avalanche (1996, 2001),who currently lead the NHL with 73 points, won its NHL-record ninth consecutive divisional title last season and has appeared in six conference championship series since 1995.
Produced in conjunction with NHL Productions, the documentary-style show will give viewers two one-hour episodes of behind-the-scenes access to the Avalanche as the team practices, competes and lives away from the rink. Part one will capture the team's training camp through the NHL All-Star break, while part two will air Thursday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. (ET),documenting the second half of the season.
Bonus air dates for part one include: Monday, Feb. 16 (ESPN2, 1 p.m. ET),Tuesday, Feb. 17 (ESPN, 4 a.m. ET) and Monday, May 10 (ESPN, 3 p.m. ET).
